FR: Si Clare Louise a composé ses premières mélodies lors d’un voyage en Irlande, c’est à Bruxelles que cette jeune Française a posé sa guitare. Avec son timbre haut perché et profond, il ne lui aura guère fallu de temps pour s’inviter dans le cercle très fermé des grandes voix du folk (on pense notamment à Karen Dalton, Alela Diane ou encore Jesse Sykes,…). Quant au songwriting direct et intuitif, il nous plonge dans les mondes intérieurs de la demoiselle, entre des souvenirs qui restent et qui s’effacent, la souffrance du temps qui passe et autres thèmes qu’une vie ne suffirait pas à explorer…

Bien qu’initiée en solitaire, l’aventure pousse Clare Louise à s’entourer d’une violoncelliste et d’un second guitariste afin d’offrir une nouvelle dimension à des morceaux intimes et fragiles. Dans la foulée, elle enregistre un EP autoproduit (2009) et multiplie les concerts, avec notamment des passages remarqués au Botanique, à l’AB, à Esperanzah !, au BSF,… Mais en début d’année, Clare Louise décide de s’arrêter une nouvelle fois pour enregistrer son premier album. Sous la direction de Marc Huyghens (JOY, ex-Venus), elle s’efforce donc de mettre en boîte 12 morceaux avec l’aide de ses fidèles acolytes (Charlotte Danhier et Cédric Van Caillie) et de quelques invités (Tuur Florizoone, Françoise Vidick (JOY), Mathieu Catala (Balimurphy),…). Il en résulte Castles in the air, un album dont le folk oscille entre des compositions délicates et épurées et d’autres plus orchestrées et colorées mais qui, toutes, nous invitent à voyager dans l’univers très personnel de Clare Louise.

EN: French songwriter now residing in Brussels, Clare Louise wrote her first guitar melodies during a trip to Ireland some years ago. Her high pitched, yet deep voice belongs to the club of folk's finest, and evokes Karen Dalton, Alela Diane or Jesse Sykes. Her direct, intuitive songwriting reveals the lady's inner self, souvenirs present and fading, reflections on the passing of time...

Started as a solo project, the Clare Louise adventure now comprises a cellist and a second guitarist, giving more space and extent to her delicate tunes. 2009 saw her self-releasing a first E.P. and starting playing live actively, with highlights at Le Botanique, L'Ancienne Belgique, Esperanzah Festival...

Early this year, she began work on her first album, with the help of her faithful musicians (Charlotte Danhier and Cédric Van Caillie), guests (Tuur Florizoone, Françoise Vidick (JOY), Mathieu Catala (Balimurphy) under the supervision of Marc Huyghens (JOY, ex-Venus). The result is Castles In The Air, a 12 track debut album of folk songs, at times sober and fragile, at others more colored and orchestrated, all highly personal.
